Chefchaouen Pattern [Republished]

[This post was originally published January 10, 2016, on my blog www.monavincent.com. That blog is no longer live, so I moved this post here so it is still accessible from Ravelry.]

Coming home from Morocco with four kilos of yarn was not a treat, when it came to cramming the giant skeins into my luggage, that is. However, the yarn and I made it home, thanks to Royal Air Maroc, and I have been dreaming up color stitch patterns with it ever since. Finding a sweater pattern that matched the gauge I could achieve with my new yarn was another challenge, but one I finally met when I discovered this pattern. With all the elements in place, I headed over to Chart Minder and began clicking colors into place. I had to alter the sweater pattern a bit to match the repeats in my final design, but the final result is everything I had dreamed, and more.

Last night the sweater body came off my needles and I couldn't wait to see the finished color work in the light of day. Memories of Morocco and Chefchaouen came to life in the colors and patterns on my sweater. The dark brown and red stripes were inspired by the intricate tile work we encountered in the stunning medersas of Fes, Meknes, and Rabat-Sale. The tan and white repeat emerged after studying the hats crocheted by the yarn guy in Chefchaouen (from whom I purchased some of the yarn). The vibrant green as the background is a reminder of all of Morocco, a colorful evocation of life and faith.

To happily share my first stitch pattern here is a great joy. Please, enjoy!

The brown and red bands require a 5-stitch repeat, while the tan and white require a 4-stitch repeat. Notes on my use of the pattern in my sweater can be found here (I am still finishing up the sweater and am adding notes). The Ravelry page for this stitch pattern can be found here.

Update! The sweater is done. I might make a few more small changes, but for now I love the final result!
